Mail, calendar, and contact features are installed with Notes, including traditional Notes functionality. Additional features such as the IBM® Lotus® Symphony™, Activities, IBM® Lotus® Sametime® (integrated), and the Composite Application Editor can also be installed.

The Notes RPM package install kit consists of the following items:

• You must be logged in as a root user or switch user to root before installing Notes. After Notes is installed, non-root users can open and use Notes.
• When installing Notes from CD onto an RHEL 5 Linux client, mount the CD drive using exec as a gconf mount option. You can then insert the Notes installation CD and run the installer by typing ./setup.sh. By default, RHEL 5 does not allow execute permission on a mounted CD drive.

  To properly mount the RHEL 5 client drive, use the following command:

  gconftool-2 /system/storage/default_options/iso9660/mount_options -s "[exec]" -t list --list-type=string

  Optionally, you can mount the drive using your UID settings:

  gconftool-2 /system/storage/default_options/iso9660/mount_options -s "[exec,uid=]" -t list --list-type=string

  After installation is complete, change back to the default permissions as below.

  gconftool-2 /system/storage/default_options/iso9660/mount_options -s "[]" -t list --list-type=string

• You can install Notes in a multi-user environment. Single user install is not supported.
• If you have installed a Beta version, uninstall it before installing the release version.
• Shared network installation is not supported for Notes standard configuration.
• Installation and use of Notes on a USB drive is not supported for Notes standard configuration.
• The installation path cannot contain special characters such as # or $.
• Only one instance of Notes should be installed on a client workstation at any given time.
• If installation does not complete successfully, uninstall Notes and reinstall. If uninstall is not successful, see "Cleaning a previous or partial Notes installation from your client."
